I get it, we’re all busy, but don’t you hate it when you walk into a colleague’s office or cubicle and they’re not there? This is especially a problem when I miss any impromptu lunch invites to some place yummy because I stepped away from my desk for a few minutes. It can be tough to catch our elusive co-workers at times and I wanted to address this issue with the help of some nifty prototyping tools. Using the brand new ultra-low-power MSP432™ LaunchPad, paired with the easy to use, secure SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi ® CC3100 BoosterPack, I decided to create a Wi-Fi-connected doorbell.
In short, this doorbell will connect to my office Wi-Fi network and will trigger a call to my phone whenever someone presses the doorbell button. Once I receive the call on my phone, I have the option to enter the number of minutes until I return back to my desk by typing it on my phone’s keypad. At that point, the number of minutes is sent back to the LaunchPad via Wi-Fi and it will display a countdown on an LED matrix that the doorbell ringer can see.
This way, my co-workers can now easily notify me when they need me at my office. And with the help of the cloud, I can just as easily let them know how soon I’ll be back!
Now I’ll never miss impromptu lunch invites to the next new taco joint. And I love tacos.
