Before November 2009, Julie Van Haren hadn’t taken part in the Komen Race for the Cure, the annual fundraiser for breast-cancer research and treatment.

One diagnosis – when Van Haren was told she had Stage 1 breast cancer – made her see things in a different light.

“Other causes are more passionate to me personally,” Van Haren said, “but once you get a diagnosed with a disease like that it changes your outlook.”

Van Haren – TI’s director of communications for Embedded Processing – raised $8,000 for Komen the year after her diagnosis. And on Saturday, June 9, 421 TIers will take part in the Komen Race for the Cure in Plano. To date this year, TIers have raised more than $42,000.
