Senior Design is one of my favourite places to stop when I am visiting Universities.
A lot of different methodologies exist for teaching Senior Design. Some have pre-ordained projects that the teams of students have to execute. Others let the students choose their own projects and make them design and execute the project.
Either way, I absolutely love seeing what sort of creativity that Students come up with!
So what I want to know is what happens AFTER senior design?
After months of slaving over a project with team members, overcoming mishaps, documenting every step… where does your hard work go after you’ve received your grade?
What would I do about Senior Design Projects?here’s a short list…
1.) Get that on YouTube! You worked hard on that project and you should SHARE it with the world. Make sure to put some key search terms in it (e.g. what did you use, what are you achieving?) Tips: Pick the most expensive part of your system and make sure to CALL IT OUT… that way anyone else who wants to see how to use it will pull up your video on their searches.
2.) Now that it’s on YouTube , publicise it! Put it on your LinkedIn profile, as an embedded link on your resume, save it to your SmartPhone. Nothing is more impressive to me in an interview than when a student can SHOW me their work. Not only does it prove that they know what they are talking about, but it helps drive the interview in a favourable way… around something you spent a significant part of your life doing!
3.) Even better than YouTube…? If it uses TI… send it to us and let us host it on OUR website. If it’s a Launchpad project you can post your project on http://ti.com/launchpad . Just put a link to your YouTube Video or Class Project Site with a quick description. If it’s not on Launchpad? Post a reply to this page or send us an email at univ@ti.com with your project labours. If it is using TI as a processor, I myself will post it to our website. Why this matters? Now, instead of prospective employers looking at a YouTube video where possibly the next video is “this” (good video by the way), your video will be on a large, Fortune 500 Company’s website with our endorsement. Far more impressive!
Whatever it is, you worked hard on your senior design project and should want to have complete strangers oooh and ahhhh over your 1.) Brilliance and 2.) Ability to overcome all technical obstacles to be able to turn in a Senior Design Project that is getting you one step closer to graduation!
So please, post your projects and share them!
