Latest member of the Droid family brings even greater experiences to life
Blogs and industry sites have been overflowing with anticipation over the past few months about the launch of the Droid X, Motorola’s second-generation Droid smartphone. Today, we applaud Motorola’s official launch of this eye-catching device! As the Applications Engineering Manager, I worked on the OMAP™ processor team that supported this project. And, I wanted to share some thoughts with you about today’s news.
Building on the success of the first Droid, Droid X promises the next level of performance and power capabilities. You can check out Motorola’s press release for complete specs. As CEO Dr. Sanjay Jha stated in his presentation today, Droid X also features some key TI components that make its features come to life:
We couldn’t be more thrilled to be inside such another ground-breaking device from Motorola. As you know, Motorola issued the first Droid in October 2009, which featured TI’s OMAP3430 processor and WiLink 6.0 solution as well. TI is excited to be part of the second-generation Droid X, as the Droid family leaves a solid mark on the mobile market and in the Android world.

Great post Eric. Thanks for the team's hard work with Motorola to launch the exciting new Droid X product. I'd like to add my perspective on this achievement.
The OMAP3630 brings an amazing increase in performance to smartphones, while at the same time maximizing our customers' (like Motorola) investment in the OMAP platform. They were able to take advantage of significant higher-performance and lower-power benefits, along with the software and footprint-compatible device, to make another significant impact to the mobile industry in less than nine months! Customers also get the best of both worlds in the end: exciting new smartphone experiences (powered by TI OMAP technology) with longer battery life. It is win-win-win-win situation for TI, Motorola, Verizon and customers.
So far the industry appears to like what they see, describing it as a "home run" and many other positive terms. It will be exciting to see further Droid X coverage and the many people showing off the device.
