TI unveils InstaSPIN™-MOTION with position control!
Motor designers can now build embedded position servo systems quickly thanks to a suite of motion and control products in InstaSPIN-MOTION. Adding to the revolutionary InstaSPIN motor control technology, InstaSPIN-MOTION expands upon its offering of velocity with inner field oriented torque control capability to now include support for an outer servo position loop that only requires a single tuning parameter for position plus velocity! With the SpinTAC™ software suite — licensed by TI from LineStream Technologies and provided royalty free — engineers can harness InstaSPIN-MOTION to rapidly produce optimized motion controls for position systems. InstaSPIN-MOTION with position control features a disturbance rejecting position plus speed controller with single variable tuning parameter, on-the-fly calculated trajectory generation (trapezoidal, S-curve, continuous-jerk st-curve), state-based motion planning, optional motor identification to numerically calculate tuning of torque controller, encoder software calibration and conversions, and system inertia identification.
TI’s FAST™ software sensor is also included, which may be used for feedback redundancy in encoder based systems. InstaSPIN-MOTION with position control is enabled by special libraries in on-chip read-only-memory (ROM) on C2000™ Piccolo™ F2806x microcontrollers and is available now with no additional charges. Designers can get started utilizing InstaSPIN-MOTION with position control through a MotorWare™ software update which works with the following evaluation kits: DRV8312-69M-KIT, DRV8301-69M-KIT and TMDSHVMTRINSPIN.

How does InstaSPIN performs under very low speeds ? We are developing a Direct Drive motor controller that is going to be used on a telescope mount axis and needs to sustain very, very, low tracking speeds. Can InstaSPIN be used at, say, 15 arcs/sec axial rotation ?
The SpinTAC controller works extremely well in zero and ultra low speed applications. As long as your rotor sensor gives appropriate resolution you should get very good results.
