Hi lighting fans. Welcome to TI’s Power House blog.  I’ll be posting from time-to-time on the developments TI has in LED lighting.  Today, I’d like to announce a brand new EVM we have released, titled the TPS92010 LED-lamp Reference Board.  We are really excited about this new design and the capabilities it brings to LED lighting.  First, it uses the TPS92010 to create a 6W LED lighting driver. This means that it will be perfect for residential light bulb replacements, and is compatible with standard TRIAC dimmers.  The other big differentiator is the near-lossless deep dimming.  TI, and TI only, has licensed IP for a lossless dimming circuit.  This means that competitors dimming techniques dissipate more power at deep dimming levels than the power consumed driving the LEDs!  The lossless dimming circuit also reduces heat, which increases system life and reliability.  Here are some of the other key highlights of this EVM:

  • TRIAC compatible dimming
  • Low cost line powered LED driver solution
  • Includes 5 HB-LED’s as a sample load
  • Allows easy use of user own LED load
  • Test points for LED voltage and current
  • Accurate current sensing to maintain constant current to LED’s
  • Modifiable output current from 0.2A to 0.7A, 0.325A is default
