hi, im somewhat new here.
i tend to lurk forums a lot more than i actually contribute :P but in most of the forums that i have been a part of there have always been project threads.
i know it would be slow and maybe i am the only one but i would love to see a forum that was dedicated to peoples independent projects with the ti dsp's
ive done some projects myself and wish i documented them some more than i did, but i think itd be a great chance to see and contribute to other peoples ideas, builds, and code. most of the time its very motivating and great for the community also. so in this way its not just a problem based community.
either way, cheers!
I like the intent here, though I would like to get a better idea of exactly what you are proposing, would this be a single projects forum globally, or a projects subforum for each individual device?
My initial thought on this is that you could post about your project in the particular forum for the deivce you are using, as there is no rule saying that all posts in a forum must be problem based or Q&A. What I would like to avoid is having too many forums such that there are forums with only a couple of threads in them over a period of months, especially since we have so many various forums already.
I am the TI community manager I too would like to hear a bit more of what you are thinking. There are several directions this can go and they could center around:
You may be heading down the path of a global engineering lab notebook where fellow members could share scope BOM , software and schematics under a creative commons license. Simple stuff, perhaps building block items that are basic elements of larger product designs?
hi, thanks for the replys :)
i didnt quite think all the details out, but i do love seeing on going projects and new ideas.
i am a big fan of sharing and collaboration, i think all of us as a whole can certainly better something that a single person was trying to accomplish. i feel it is also motivating for the creator and all the observers and helpers involved. new ideas also spark newer ideas from other people that they might not have thought of. as a whole i feel freely shared knowledge and collaboration from many minds and points of view always helps in the advancement of everyone and everything involved.
i do understand where there would be an opposition to this. especially in embedded systems as the field continues to grow. with ideas and coding in the heart of advancement, people might not want to freely give away what they worked so hard for.
as a college student i also am not very versed when it comes to legal issues, licensing, and ownership. i was never a huge fan of all these things, but i do understand where they are necessary and are in place for a reason. communal sharing certainly makes things a little complicated when it comes to this, especially when the sharing is on the internet where it can be viewed by anybody. while i would love to fully trust the intent of everyone i cannot. however, from what ive seen here, these forums seem to be a very helpful and courteous place to come for help and share knowledge with people that might not know, and i feel like the community here would be able to extend these courtesies to ideas and projects.
i guess to sum things up and try to answer the questions asked. i was at first
thinking of just a dedicated forum for people to share their finished,
work in progress, or not even started projects with other people that
enjoy designing. somewhere where someones hard work and ideas can be
praised, criticized, and bettered by a community of people all with the same passion. i didnt have any specific purpose in mind as far as whether it was to be strictly sharing, management of open source type projects, ideas for industry, or colloboration toolbox, but i feel all these things can come of it.
i also do see that there are a lot of forums, and maybe a project specific folder in each sub section might be more appropriate if the boards wanted to go down this path. i just enjoyed the idea of a dedicated forum section for projects, as i like seeing them so much.
sorry if i forgot to answer anything :P i didnt really think everything through when i first posted and im just now trying to arrange what i had envisioned in my head into words.
thanks again for all the input :)
