Please stop clearing the "Part number" field when a not-recognized part is entered

If you enter in a part number that is not recognized in the "Part number" field, the entire field gets cleared and the little error message "Part number "..." not recognized" appears.  Which is a royal PAIN when attempting to enter a long part number.  For example, I was trying to type in "TM4C1294KCPDT".  However, I accidently go the "D" and the "T" at the end swapped, and the WHOLE FIELD GOT CLEARED!  So I went to type it in again, except I fat fingered when entering the "1294" portion of the part number.  Whole field got cleared and I had to start over AGAIN!

PLEASE do not clear the part number field when an invalid part number has been entered.
