Hi,

anybody knows which is the threshold level of the CLIP warning signal from TAS5611A ? I did non find the value on datasheet, but perhaps I missed it.

Thanks in advance,

Enrico

    Hi, Enrico,

i'm sorry, I don't get what data you are looking for. Can you explain further?

    Hi Don,

I am experimenting with the TAS5611/13PHD2EVM board. I am using an output stage supply of 24V, PBTL configuration and a resistive load of 2R2.

I experimentally find that the CLIP LED, powered by the /CLIP output pin 18 of TAS5611, turns ON when the peak-to-peak voltage on the load reaches about 17.2V. So this warning signal looks activated when there is still some 7V margin before the output peak-to-peak amplitude reaches the supply voltage.

What I was looking for is a confirm of this behaviour and the rationale behind it, because it seems to me a rather low threshold level for /CLIP warning signal.

Does it means that actually I have to avoid to go above 17Vpk-pk using a 24V supply ? Actually, on the oscilloscope there is no evidence of clipping at 17Vpk-pk output (I look at it using two traces of the scope in differential mode, so not to connect the output stage to ground).

Moreover from the TAS5611A data sheet (Figure 10) I argue that the amplifier rating is about 150W on 2R load, which means to use full 24Vpk-pk output amplitude. Of course I understand it is at 10% THD+N.

Is the /CLIP signal just an early warning but no real clipping is occurring at this level ?

I hope my question is clearer now.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Enrico

    Enrico,

These devices all share a common design strategy.

    Thank-you Don,

I previously searched in the forums for this topic but I was not able to find the "TAS5630 /CLIP signal output" thread.
