LM4562 -- Errors in Application Note

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM317

Figure 5 in application note AN-1651 ("Keeping up with the Expanding Demands of High-Performance Audio") would seem replete with errors and should be corrected.  Balance Potentiometer R11 referenced in the text is missing from the schematic, perhaps one should assume that it is between the sources of the output transistors with the wiper connected to the input of the LM317.  Should the drain of Q1 should be connected to the output node via C6? The negative power supply is labeled incorrectly.

  • Hi, John,

Sorry about that. I can't really fix it, do you think it is useful as-is, or should I just kill the entire thing if it causes more questions than it solves?

  • i would dump the entire application note.  An ESL amplifier deals with high voltages, and as the amplifier is described without major edits it presents more risk than the company should take -- there's not even a disclaimer as found on application notes by other companies like Linear Tech with regard to the high voltages present.

The topic of active and passive RIAA compensation is treated quite well in other TI/NSM ap notes and data sheets, or by Jung in "Op Amp Applications".

I do like the idea which Curcio used to bias the MOSFETs, but the LM317 is a noisy current source/sink.
