hi every one,
I am using audio codec tlv320aic3120 having specified speaker impedance of 4 ohm. is it wrong if i connect speaker of impedance 22 ohm directly. What will be the effect on audio quality ?
kindly suggest and explain.

Hi, Amit,
I have moved your post to the Audio Converter e2e.
Do you want to put the 22 ohm resistor in series with the speaker? If so, most of the voltage will be dropped across the resistor and not the speaker, significantly reducing the output level.
Are you ok with that?

Thanks Don,
Actually i need to connect a good speaker at codec tlv320aic3120, presently i am using speaker with 22 ohm impedance, i tried putting a resistor parallel to speaker to reduce impedance to 4 ohm (as per datasheet tlv320aic3120 has 4 ohm impedance ).
however i have found no improvement in out audio.

Hi, Amit,
Adding resistors will never increase your output level, regardless of where you add them...

You'll have to use a speaker that can handle your chosen SPKVDD (2.7V to 5.5V). The impedance of the speaker has to be >4 Ohm. If you use a speaker with a voltage rating <SPKVDD, you'll damage the speaker. If you use a speaker with impedance <4 Ohm, the AIC3120 will trigger the overcurrent protection (the audio will cut out for amplitudes that cause excess current into the speaker).
