TAS5630b working without heatsink and load

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5630

Hello ,

I have a big problem. Just for seeing signals and pin conditions , i did not connect resistor loads to tas5630 board and start looking with scope. I saw triangle signal on osc pins ,and also saw square signal on BST pins , sd otw ready pins conditions are same as in pdf normal operation chart ,  everythings are right as  i expect , but just 30 or 40 seconds later chip is dead , i did not explain this and i changed the tas5630 and looked same pins again ,and all pins signals are same as before ,but after 30 or 40 seconds later tas5630 was also dead , SD pin is low and i reset chip or power off the board wait 3-5 minutes but no signal from chip. All clock, bst signals are off. I dont use heatsink , because i need to see pins on scope screen , because of this i dont connect loads. I only change the value of ınductors in my design ,others are same in application. In Texas application inductor value is 7uH , i change it to  10uH. What will be the problem? I use TAS5630BPHDR .

  • Hi, Mehmet,

Welcome to e2e, and thanks for your interest in our products!

Most likely the issue is filter resonance due to the filter being unloaded. See this app note for more information on LC output filter design.

In order to run a class-D amp open load, you will need to place some diodes from the outputs to power and ground to keep the voltage generated by the LC filter resonance from causing an over-voltage event on the output pins. These diodes are only needed if you plan to run the filter un-loaded.

  • Hello Don,

I used SS310 diodes between +V - out and gnd - out , i removed them after first chip was burned. I have one ic left and i will do as you explain. Could you tell me ss310 is suitable for test? or advise me another one?

  • Do i need to connect high value load while testing? like 500ohm or 1k to speaker out.?
