TAS5715EVM GUI Questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5715EVM, TAS5715, TAS5717

Hi,

My customer has a problem with TAS5715EVM. Althogh the customer has tried to make the EVM work, he cannot make it yet. Could you give me something advice?

The situation is as below.

 - Latest GUI is downloaded from TI Web site : Ver3.2, build7

 - I2C address setting : 54  --- Refered "SLAA484 : Setting TAS5715EVM Environment Variables"

 - Select "TAS5715" device

 - After "Power On" and "Target connect", "Shut down" and "Mute" is set "OFF"

Then "small pop noise" has happened but no music is reproduced...

 - But in case of device selection is "TAS5717" not TAS5715, music is reproduced but volume control is uncontrollable...

   It's very strange.

 - The customer's PCs environment is as follows. (The customer has tried on 3 PCs.)

         Windows7 Professional Service Pack1 32bit, Windows8 32Bit

         Intel® Core™ i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz,  2GB/4GB RAM

The same situation(behavior) on both Win7 and Win8.

 - I also tried to make the EVM work on my PC and I could succeed to make it.

My PC's environment is almost same as the customer's one. Only customer's PCs cannot make it.

   It's very very strange.

Now we are in problem and cannot find the solution.

Could you please give us any advice about this?

Best Regards,

  • Hi Takumi,

As you say, this is very strange. I tested this and followed the same steps you describe,  EVM worked correctly on both my PC and Laptop.

TAS5717 volume registers share the same addresses with TAS5715. However the length of these registers is different between them. TAS5717 has 2 byte volume registers while TAS5715 has 1 byte volume registers. This is the reason volume gets uncontrollable. Also there are other register mismatch between these devices so it's not recommended to use a different GUI than the specified for the device.

Can they use TAS5715 I2C memory tool to read the master volume register 0x07 to make sure the volume is correct? It should be 0x30 for 0dB.

What are they using as the input source and what is the  input source's level? It is possible that your input source level is too low and more volume gain is needed. Did they adjusted or played with the master volume slider?
