TAS5086 Volume Register

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5086

The datasheet for the TAS5086 indicates that the Master Volume Register (0x07) can be programmed to set a range of volumes down to -103dB.  On our system we are finding that for any values < -79dB (register value 0xCF or greater) the output signal is disappearing.  Is this characteristic of the TAS5086?

  • Hi Steve,

Do you use audio analyzer like Audio Precision/Rohde-Schwarz to measure?  Is your input signal 0dBFS (reference to full scale)?  If all answers are yes, please try to reduce the channel volume (default is 0dB).  Please let me know if you can achieve <-79dB on the channel that you change.  Thanks.

    Regards,

    Tuan

  • Hi Tuan,

We are using an Audio Precision ATS-2 for measurement.  Our input signal is full-scale and we tried splitting the desired volume decrease between the master and channel volume registers.  We still see the same behavior.  With the master and channel volumes both set to -40dB the output signal is muted.  If the master volume is set to -39dB and the channel volume at -40dB we see a nice output signal.

  • Reducing the channel volume was ineffective.  We still see signal cutout after -79dB.  Do you have any further information or recommendations for us?
