Current spikes normal on the TPA2031D1 ?

Hi TI Lady,

To clarify... there are 10 TPA2031D1 audio amplifiers driving 10 separate 4 ohm speakers the you are seeing 9.5A current spike on the VDD pin?

Can you also elaborate on what was chosen for external components?

Hi TI Lady,

Without knowing what your external components are I'd say spikes would be normal. When using capacitors there is usually a brief moment on startup where spikes in current can be seen due to capacitors charging. I suspect that this is what you are seeing.

Do the spikes occur only on power up?. No they occur at peaks in the music signal.

 Can we please set up a call? the customer is getting agitated.

It would greatly help if we could get input waveforms and scope information on the input, output and current spike. Also, it would help if we could see where the test point is when you see the current spike.

The BU has ordered an EVM and is currently awaiting it's arrival to test this case in the lab. We will keep you informed on the progress being made. In the mean time, the information above would greatly help replicate and investigate the problem.
