TPA3116D2 is rated at 2 X 50W at 4ohms load. what will be the power output at 8 ohms load in same config ?

Is it possible to get 2X50W @4ohms load at power supply 12V ?

As for getting 2x50W with a 12V supply. I do not see this as being possible. Referring to the plot on the datasheet on page 10, a 12V supply just simply is not enough to drive 50W. (I have attached the plot below.)

I see if I supply 24V and use 4 ohm speaker, I will get 75W max power output at THD+N 10%. Is this 75W is per channel or in total for 2 channel ? i.e. 75WX2 or 37.5WX2 ?

Hi Roomi,

That plot represents an individual channel. In your example, 24V supply with a 4ohm speaker will have a 75W max on each channel (2x75W).

Are you sure its per channel ?? As from TPA3116D2 datasheet, it says (50W x 2) at 4 ohms. so total 100W

if the graph is for per channel, then total is 150W !!

So , total I will get 150W from a single chip at 4ohm 24V. right ?

That is correct. Although, you may experience some distortion in your sound at that power level. According to the graph below the THD+N level appears to be around 10% with an ouput power of 75W.

Also, be sure to note that the datasheet does advise using a heat sink on anything above 2x15W for a 4 ohm load.

In my application, there are 4 inputs and 4 outputs. There will be 4 speakers each rated at [75W, 4 Ohms] at the four outputs. So total power required for my system is 300W. I would like to use 2 pc TPA3116D2, both in BTL config. Please advice if my selection is correct

Without knowing anything else about your system I would say yes, using two TPA3116D2s can acheive what you want.

As a friendly reminder, be sure your power supply can handle the appropiate current to acheive the output you desire.
