Gain setting for TPA2005D1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA2005D1, TPA6012A4, TPA2008D2

Hi,

We wish to use TPA2005D1 amplifier in one of our applications. And we want to control its gain using a single potentiometer, but as we can see that there are 2 input resistances which should be varied to configure the gain. Is there any way to do the same using a single potentiometer.

If yes, please tell us. And if there is no possible way, please suggest to us a similar class-D rf immune audio amplifier whose gain can be tuned using a potentiometer.

Thanks,

Rahul

  • Hi Rahul,

Both Ri must be varied in the same values, so there is not a recommended way to control the gain of the TPA2005D1 with a single potentiometer; although you can use a dual potentiometer to control both Ri but keep special care on the precision of the potentiometer.
I would suggest you to use DC volume controlled devices if you want a potentiometer control, like the TPA6012A4 and TPA2008D2 which also support differential input for a better noise performance.

  • Hi Ivan,

Thanks for replying. The amplifiers you had suggested are not RF-immune, and for our application it is must for the audio amplifier to be RF-immune. Can you suggest me any other amplifier which is RF-immune.

And you are right when you say we can use a dual potentiometer, but they are barely available in the market, couldn't even find it on digikey.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Rahul,

I'm sorry but I think we don't have any class-D amplifier with the same internal architecture as TPA2005D1 that also has that kind of gain setting. But maybe a differential input amplifier could do the work, the differential input is helpful in noisy environments.
If you have any other question please let me know.
