TAS5548/58 ASRC

Hi Kato-san,

The ASRC will output a 24-bit word to the DAP. Then DAP will then use the data as shown in figure 26 of the TAS5548 data sheet.

I would like to grasp the data bit width for the dithering in the internal ASRC blocks as there is mentioned in the data sheet of SRC4192.
Could you please give me your advice about it ?

Our customer has a concern for the dithering of ASRC as below.
Is TAS5548/58 possible to reduce the distortion and also to improve the resolution below an LSB(least significant bit) by adding noise(dither) to the audio signal on the internal ASRC ?

Hi Kato-san,

Yes, adding dither will improve the distortion of low level signals only, and will not have much effect on large amplitude signals. It can also have an effect of creating an average value in-between or "lower" than the actual resolution, simulating a higher resolution.

I understood that TAS5548/58 is able to improve the resolution below an LSB even if adding the dither to the small audio signal.
Is my understanding correct ?
