inst and cont power of TAS5756M

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5756M

Hi...

I want to know what the inst power and cont power mean as bellow picture.

What does that mean exactly?

Also my customer wants to design the PBTL configuration of TAS5756M at Po=80W, THD+N=10%, RL=3ohm.

Is it possible?

Let me know that.

Thanks.

  • Hi JaePhil,

Instanteous means in this case for a short period of time on the order of seconds. Continuous is longer than minutes possibly hours or days. These power levels are based on using a sinewave, which is much harsher than music thermally. The device must drive the power level (rms) shown as continuous for a long time without shutting down. The limitation is mostly thermal. Hence to get the continuous power close to the instantaneous power shown requires good PCB layout that provides great thermal dissipation.

Based on the curve 80W is possible without thermal limitation. Our EVM gives ~60W continuous with 3-ohms. I would recommend using 4-ohms for better efficiency, but will require PVDD = 24V.

  • Hi Damian

Thanks for your answer and details.
I will recommend the PBTL configuration at RL=4ohm, PVDD=24V like your comments.

    Thanks.
