TAS5414C SYNC Input Signal

I have a few questions about the TAS5414C-Q1 device when using the SYNC signal.

  • 1. What would happen to the TAS device, while operating with a SYNC input, if we intermittently lost the SYNC input signal and then got it back again?
    • If it we in the millisecond range, what would be the results of this event? The reason being that the uC supplying the SYNC went through a reset period.
  • 2. What would happen to the TAS device if the SYNC input received a constant logic high?
  • 3. What would happen to the TAS device if the SYNC input received a constant logic low?
  • 4. What are the limitations of the SYNC input if you wanted to change frequencies on the fly for AM avoidance using the SYNC input?
  • Could you just step the Frequencies or is there a limit on the amount of time in which you can change this SYNC frequency?

    I can answer 1,2 and 3 at the same time.  There is a watchdog on the sync input.  When the clock is missing the output will go into Hi-Z mode.  This is noted in the TAS5414C Design Guide SLOS196, Section 1.3.1.  If the uC is going through a reset, I suggest the amplifier to be reset also, or at least muted.

    4.  The frequencies can be changed in one clock cycle.  It can be jumped from low to high.  There may be a very small tick in the speakers. Most head units mute the output when changing AM frequencies, so this should not be a problem.
