TAS5717 noise floor

Using an Audio Precision analyzer with 22-22K filter,  I measure the EVM headphone output noise at about -75 dBu and peak audio output of roughly +8dBu.  The datasheet spec for SNR of headphone amp is 101/105 dB.   I am hearing white noise that seems to be 10-20 dB higher than I would expect if SNR is truly 100dB. See about the same results on EVM as on our hardware design.  How is TI coming up with the 100 dB SNR?

  • Hi, Dave,

Welcome to E2E, Thanks for your interest in our products!.

The data from the datasheet corresponds to analog input. The data you are obtaining is the typical SNR value for the HP/Line driver when using I2S PWM input. To acheve 105dB, you need an analog input source that has a SNR > 105dB.
