I'd like to design a 'simple', high voltage AC source. Up to 280Vrms, 300 .. 400W, 50 .. 60Hz

Initially I was going to use a high power class AB audio amplifier to drive a low frequency

transformer. Then I found the TAS5630 class D amplifier. The use of class D amplifier could

make my device much smaller and lighter and would allow me to generate higher frequency

signals.

 

Can the TAS5630 drive a high frequency transformer?

Is the phase shift between various outputs of the TAS5630 controller and stable?

I would be ideal if I could use two primary windings connected in parallel and driven

by the differential outputs of the TAS5630: winding 1 OUT_A - OUT_B, winding 2 OUT_C - OUT_D.

    If you what to pass 50-60Hz the transformer need to be sized to that - and thats big.

    Hello MIK,

    Thanks for your reply. I do relize that I need high power, bulky transformer to pass 50-60Hz signals.

    That's why I'd like to use class D amplifier and pass high frequency signals through a high frequency,

    small size transformer. My idea is to use the transformer instead of the choke and apply filtering

    at the secondary side of the transformer. 600W, TAS5630 based amplifier seems to be what I need.

    The primary winding can be (at least theoretically) connected between OUT_A and OUTB, a second

    primary (to increase the output power) could be connected between OUTC and OUT_D.

    I don't want to invest time and money before I make sure that the idea can work at all.

    The TAS5630 datasheet doesn't mention timing relations between AOU_A, B, C and D

    outputs in varius modes of output configurations. I need to know if the outputs are in phase, stable phase shifted or phase shift is random.

    Do you have access to a development kit to check the timings or is there more detailed documentation

    for the chip available?

    I know that application is way from 'standard' applications of class D amplifiers but could be interesting.

    At least for me. Maybe for you as well. Just think of the application notes you could write if that worked. [:)]
