Not output HP and Speaker for TAS5558

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5558, TAS5614LA, TAS5548

Dear Sirs,

My customer asked me as following question.

When you send a Volume control (0xD1-0xD9) at the timing of the HP_SEL (17pin) controlled by the TAS5558, there is a symptom that does not output HP output and Speaker.
In this case, Individual Channel Shutdown (0x27) is 0xFF (all CH shutdown).
The other day, it is the same conditions also with respect to this was "FAULTZ" question.

Please tell me that you are thinking about this symptom.

Best Regards,

Y. Hasebe

  • Hi, Hasebe-san,

My colleague will take a look to your questions.

  • Hasebe-san,

What is the state of /HP_SEL and /MUTE pins? Are you getting s FAULTz reporting in register 0x02 D1? The headphone uses channel 1 and 2. If /HP_SEL is low the headphone should have output, but speaker should not.

Do you have the I2C register settings you're using with all your register writes?

  • Hello Damian-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
1.What is the state of /HP_SEL and /MUTE pins?

⇒HP_SEL Low ,I will check to my customer about the mute status.

2.Are you getting s FAULTz reporting in register 0x02 D1?

⇒I was already the following questions.
My custromer asked me about status conditions of faultz of ERROR Status Register(0x02) for TAS5558.
Then I checked status conditions of faultz in TAS5558 datasheet.
    But I couldn't find them.
So please tell me the conditions to become a FAULTZ="1"

⇒I have received a reply from Damian-san above question.

The faultz in reg 0x02 is used for I2C error reporting from the power stage. The power stage like TAS5614LA can send a fault status on the /BKND_ERR line, which stops the power stage from switching and is reported in register 0x02 D1 = 1.

3.If /HP_SEL is low the headphone should have output, but speaker should not.

⇒No sound is output from both HP and SP in this state.
I thought that in the cause that you are sending at the same time Volume data and control of HP_SEL.
     Is this correct?

4.Do you have the I2C register settings you're using with all your register writes?

⇒I will check to my customer.

    Best Regards,
    Y. Hasebe
  • Hello Damian-san,

I asked I2C register setting to my customer.
However, I get the following sequence timing.

This sequence is the switching of HP_SEL in normal operation. (Product is the power ON state)

    Auto-Mute On:reg0x04、 0x13
    5ms
    Soft-Mute On:reg0x04=0x0F, 0xFF
    2ms
    HP_SEL: Low(Headphone )
    438ms
    Soft-Mute Off:reg=0x0F, 0x00
    4ms
    Auto-Mute Off:=0x04, 0x53
    14ms
    Auto-Mute On:reg=0x04, 0x13

Please let me know if something is a problem this sequence.

    Have you checked my questions?

Could you please give me your comments?

  • Hi Hasebe-san,

Could you please share that information to me if this issue has already been closed ?

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hello Kato-san,

    Yes,This issue has already closed.
    And I had mistaken information.
    The following was correct.

    Auto-Mute On:
    reg=0x04, 0x13 ⇒ 0x04, 0x73

  • Hi Hasebe-san,

Thank you for your quick response.

I understood that TAS5548/58 is same with TAS5534/38 regarding the headphone configuration procedure as below.

  • Hi Hasebe-san,

    I have an additional question.
Is my understanding correct that the switching of the pwm outputs for 8ch pwm generator stops in your sequence if setting /HP_SEL to "low" ?

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hello Kato-san,

    I think it is correct.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Hasebe-san,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I would like to confirm just in case, have you actually evaluated it ?

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hello Kato -san,

I'm sorry that couldn't confirm this.
Because It was confirmation in customer's product environment.

    Best Regards,
    Y.Hasebe
  • Hi Hasebe-san,

    Thank you for your comment.

Your understanding is correct since there is mentioned on page 88 of TAS5558 data sheet as below.
    I greatly appreciate your cooperation.

    Best regards,
    Kato
