PCM9211+TAS5558

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5558, PCM9211, TAS5548

Dear Sirs,

My customer asked to me below question.

They use a combination of the PCM9211 and TAS5558.

PCM9211 can be selected of MCLK at the time of SPDIF input is 128fs, 256fs, only the selection of 512fs.
TAS5558 has switched the MCLK at 88.2 / 96kHz with ASRC (actually SRC) behavior.

So if the input of the TAS5558 is fs = 32kHz, no sound because it does not become an integer multiple.

Please tell me how to set the case of input 32kHz.

Best Regards,

Y.Hasebe

  • Hi Y.Hasebe,

What MCLK are you using? The data sheet specifies that the accepted ratios are 64 fS, 128 fS, 196 fS, 256 fS, 384 fS, 512 fS, or 768 fS. Are you meeting this with 32 kHz?

  • Hello Justin-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
My customer has used 16.384MHz(512fs) when fs=32kHz.

Also they are using SRC of TAS5558.

TAS5558 has internal master clock (88.2kHz&96kHz).
The MCLK frequency can be 64 fS, 128 fS, 196 fS, 256 fS, 384 fS, 512 fS, or 768 fS.
In addition, SCKO of PCM9211 has only 128fs,256fs,512fs.

    So when fs=32KHz,
    SCKO of PCM9211 is 16.384MHz(512fs).
Therefore, MCLK of TAS5558 is not a value that satisfies the integral multiple of fs.

So in the combination of PCM9211 and TAS5558 at fs = 32kHz,
Please tell me how to operate without problems under the above conditions.

  • Hi Hasebe-san,

Unfortunately, I would suggest to replace TAS5558 with TAS5548 since it seems that the combination of the PCM9211 and TAS5558 is not supported 32kHz@fs as the following table.

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hi Kato-san,

Actually, I believe that they could use the TAS5558, but the system clock needs to be amultiple of the desired output frequency. If the desired output frequency is 88.2/96 kHz, then you need a system clock for the TAS5558 such as 11.289 MHz or 12.288 MHz.

  • Hello Justin-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

My customer has used in the slave a MCLK of the TAS5558.
    PCM9211 is the master.
    So when fs = 32kHz, SCLK is 64fs = 2.048MHz.
Maybe, setting of SCKO of PCM9211 is I think that there is no problem if the 768fs = 24.576MHz.
    But SCKO of PCM9211 is 512fs = 16.384MHz max.

So please tell me how to solve the above-mentioned.
He uses the SRC in the TAS5558 now.
So How it is possible, such as to bypass the SRC at the time of 32kHz?

    Best Regards,
    Y.Hasebe
