Question of the TAS5731 Output Power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5731, TAS5731M

Hi Sirs,

The TAS5731 datasheet specifies the output power can reach 15W*2, 4ohm load ith 12V PVCC power supply. However, we found the TAS5731 EVM cannot reach 15W*2, 4ohm with 18V PVCC (thermal shutdown and audible glitch), while we confirmed the TAS5731 EVM can support 15W*2, 6ohm with 18V PVCC. Would you pls confirm is it the limit of the TS5731 chip or EVM's layout?

Thank you and Best regards,

  • Hi, Wayne,

I would like to mention first that you might want to check that the IC in the EVM is a TAS5731M, this 'M'version has an improved power stage that makes this amplifier more robust in terms of power.

The power limitation might be related to the fact that the EVM is a 2 layer board. Also, when operating at 18V PVDD you need to make sure to set Inter Channel Delay register (0x10) to the minimum value (93.8%). Have you monitored the error status register to see if there is any error report?

  • Thank you for your advise. There is no error reporting on the register 0x02...Wayne Chen
