I plan to use only the left speaker output drive of the TAS5717. I have no interest in the right channel drive or headphone drive.

Do I need to apply power to any of the right channel drive circuitry or to the headphone circuitry pins in order for the chip to function on left speaker only? (ie.. PVDD_CD, HPVDD, etc..)

Hi, John,

For the unused Speaker channel, you can disconnect the output filter and PVDD bulk capacitors of the right channel, but you need to keep the bootstrap caps and high frequency decoupling caps of PVDD_CD. Also, the unused output channel should be shut down by using PWM shutdown register 0x19.

I the case of not using the headphone output, you need to tie /HP_SD pin to GND and keep HPVDD connected. About the inputs and outputs, they can be left floating or tied to GND. The cap between CPP & CPN can be removed, CPP can either be floating or tied to 3.3V while CPN can either be floating or tied to GND.

Can you advise what will happen if I inadvertently forget to turn off the unused channel. Will damage to the other channel occur?

Hi, John,

Sorry for the late response, the output channel won't be damaged, but the power consumption of the amplifier will increase as the power stage of the unused channel will be ON.

I am having the same exact issue as here:

But, the 18.2K resistor is correct. I am seeing 1.8V on pins 12 and 18, so I imagine the things internal VRegs are working.

I am not getting any ACKs on I2C, so the chip is vegitating.

Are there any output clocks the chip puts out that I can check on scope.

Will the chip ACK a message that has a address byte not equal to 0x54?

Hi, John,

If the amplifier is not communicating, the issue might be related to the +3.3V power supplies or startup sequence. Can you please verify that /RESET is high and AVDD and DVDD power supplies are stable?. For a proper operation, /RESET should be held LOW until AVDD/DVDD power supplies are stable. The amplifier should ACK when the address byte is 0x54 if this is the address configured with /A_SEL pin.

TAS5717 data sheet verbiage states that the 7-bit I2C address is 0x54. This is incorrect. The 7-bit address is 0x2A. The R/W bit is not included in a 7-bit address.

Hi, John,

Your assumption is correct sorry for the confusion. We usually use this nomenclature for the address of our devices as the R/W bit is located in the LSB of the I²C register 8-bit trace.
