About the diagnostic sequence and click sound (LM48100Q-Q1)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM48100Q-Q1

Hello,

My customer is asking about LM48100Q-Q1.

They are setting register for initial as following.

(After the power is supplied to device.)

Addr.      Data

00      0x14        (POWER_ON/ INPUT1 : on)

01      0x20        (DG_EN/DG_CONT/DG_RESET off)

02      0x40

03      0x73        (0dB)

04      0x93       (0dB)

Step (1) After above setting, they tried to control volume register(addr. 03/04) but the sound does not output.

Step (2) The diagnostic Control is enabled (DG_EN:bit 1=1,POWER_ON register disable),

next the POWER_ON register is enabled. ->The sound became to output.

But when the volume register is controlled, click sound is happened.

(Question)

(1) According to datasheet,

“When power is initially applied to the device, the LM48100Q-Q1 initializes, performing the full diagnostic sequence.”

At that time, the full diagnostic sequence is performed regardless of the state of DG_EN and DG_CONT.

(The one-shot diagnostic sequence will not be performed.)

And this sequence can be terminated by setting DG_RESET = 1.

My understanding is correct?

“When power is initially applied to the device” is meaning that the power is supplied to device( but POWER_ON disable)

or POWER_ON register is enabled. Which one or both?

(2) About click sound,

I think that this issue might be solved by setting input mute or volume gain(minimum).

But it seems that LM48100Q-Q1 is not supported the pop/click sound.

Do you have any idea or solution more?

  • Hi Tao,

    1) The POWER_ON bit controls the shutdown function. Therefore, the POWER_ON bit must be set to 1 to enable the device.
Both power and POWER_on bit are necessary to enable the device.
    2) The pop/click sound sometimes happens when the inputs are unbalanced. Keep in mind that the input capacitors should be as close as possible to the device and they should have a tolerance of 10%.

  • Hello José,

    Thank you for reply.

I informed your answer and advice to my customer.

In last my mail, I asked question as following. Could you please let me know about this?

I ask to you about it just in case.

  • Tao_2199,

Yes, you are right. The device works in that way.
