TAS5766M: Monomix, Separate Equalizer

Part Number: TAS5766M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5782M, TAS5780M

Hi.

I am using TAS5766M EVM and PPC3 for a speaker system with a woofer and a tweeter.

The expected signal flow in TAS5766M is as follows:

Left/RightIn => MonoMix => Equalizer(Crossover Filter + PEQ) => SmartAmp(Woofer Only) => (CH1:Woofer/CH2:Tweeter)

[CH1_OUT:Woofer, CH2_OUT: Tweeter] (no analog crossover)

Please, let me know how to control in TAS5766M APP.

1) How to monomix (NOT mono bass mix)
    CH1,CH2 = (LeftIn + RightIn) / 2

2) How to control equalizer for CH1 and CH2 separately

Crossover filters will be implemented using equalizer filters.
(LPF for Woofer, HPF for Tweeter)

3) Can SmartAmp(SmartBass) be applied to Woofer channel[CH1] only?

Best regards,
Kee

  • Hi,

Andy will be taking a look at this and posting to get back to you.

    Best,

    Alex
  • Hello Mooncheol! I am just following g up to see if you received an answer to you question? Thanks, Jeff
  • Hi, Jeff.

I have not received an answer yet.

    Best regards,

    Kee

  • Hi Kee,

I guess you are designing a 1.1 system, right?  The current Smart Amp process flow available in the PPC3 GUI is for stereo (2.0) systems only.

I would suggest you take a look at our new device TAS5782M, which has a dedicated 2.1/1.1 process flow. TAS5782M is almost P2P with TAS5766 and therefore you don't need to change your hardware design.

    Andy

  • Thank you, Andy! Hello Kee, In case you are interested in the TAS5782 I have already approved your access to the GUI, and so you should receive an e-mail shortly. Thanks, Jeff
  • Hi, Andy.

Is there DSP Memory Map document for TAS5766M?

It seems possible to control separate equalizer manually (NOT in TAS5766M APP)
if there are "EQ Left" and "EQ Right" coefficient addresses.
(like DSP Memory Map in the TAS5782M Process Flows document)

MonoMix is possible if there *are* "input mixer" addresses...?

    Best regards,
    Kee

  • Hi Kee,

Equalizers are shared by both left and right in the TAS5766M Stereo Smart Amp process flow.

    Andy
  • Hi, Andy.

    1)
I have another applications with one full-range driver using TAS5766M.
So MonoMix is required for both applications.
I need information about "input mixer gain" registers such as TAS5782M, if any.

    2)
Equalizers are shared in TAS5766M APP,
but there seem separate EQ coefficient registers.
Because the same coefficients are written twice with different pages while I2C Monitoring.
I think separate EQ control is possible if EQ memory map is known.

If separate EQ control is possible,  (NOT through TAS5766M APP)
Woofer channel is low-pass filtered and tweeter channel is high-pass filtered.
There is little low frequency energy in tweeter channel,
SmartAmp(Bass) will have little effect on tweeter channel, in my opinion.

    Best regards,
    Kee

  • Hi Kee,

Regarding your second question, could you show me your i2c log? I'm pretty sure the 10 Biquads are shared, which is determined by the process flow itself and has nothing to do with TAS5766M app. I can explain to you why you saw the same coefficients were written twice after I see your log.

    Andy
  • Hi, Andy.

When BQ1 is off and then on, coefficients are written to
    (page=0x31, subaddr=0xc8) and (page=0x43, subaddr=0xc8).

  • Hi Kee,

The two I2C writes of identical data but different address change the stereo EQ setting. In other words, there are no seperate EQ settings for TAS5766M.

As for mono mix, TAS5766M does not support this function.
    Thank you!

  • Hi Roy,

    I see what you mean.
    Thank you all.

  • Hi,

Does TAS5780M support 1.1 SmartAmp processing?

    Best regards,

    Kee

  • Hi Kee,

TAS5780M does not support SmartAmp Processing.

You might want to take a look at TAS5782M which supports 1.1 SamrtAmp Processing as well as mono mix.

Please take a look at the below process flow diagram. Thank you!
