TAS5782MEVM: How to Configure Optical SPDIF Input / Output Using PPCMB and TAS5782MEVM

Part Number: TAS5782MEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5782M,

Hi,

Our customer is considering that the input audio signal is input through the optical SPDIF input port to PPCMB, SDOUT which is output from TAS5782M is sent to PPCMB again and finally SDOUT is converted to the optical SPDIF output as below.

The register configuration to assign SDOUT(DSP post-processing output) to GPIO2 pin is shown as below.

- Register Configuration for SDOUT
 0x07 = 0x00
 0x08 = 0x20
 0x55 = 0x07

Could you please give me your advice whether being able to configure the optical SPDIF input and output using PPCMB rev.G and TAS5782MEVM ?

Best regards,
Kato

  • Hello Kato-san! Andy can answer further questions, but, I assume you have the latest version of PPC3 GUI, as well as the specific plug-in for the TAS5782? If not please send me you email address. The PPCMB and TAS5782 EVM are designed to work together right out of the box and can be directly configured as instructed on the EVM guide, as well as by using the signla path control in section 3.5 Audio I/O of the same guide. If an optical SPDIF source is used, the blue SPDIF clock-locked LED is illuminated on the board to highlight this. Is your board not operating this way? Thanks, Jeff
  • Hi Jeff-san,

    Thank you for your response.

    I have already got the latest version of PPC3 and TAS5782MEVM plug-in however I lend PPCMB rev.G and TAS5782MEVM to our customer so these aren't at hand.
    The digital audio data input is selectable from "USB in", "Optical in", "PSIA", "Analog in" and "Coax in" as below so I have already input the audio source through Optical SPDIF input to PPCMB.
    In addition to inputting audio source with optical SPDIF, our customer simultaneously requests to output audio source with optical SPDIF.
    As you know, there is no setting to output with Optical SPDIF in the latest GUI of TAS5782MEVM.

    I am looking forward to getting the information from Andy-san.

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hi Kato,

    As far as I know, it is OK to route SDOUT from TAS5782MEVM back to TAS1020B (USB) or PSIA (External I2S) in PPCMB.  However, it is not OK to output SDOUT through Optical SPDIF.

  • Hi Andy-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
    I understood and will contact you if getting additional questions from our customer.

    Best regards,
