LM4901: Thermal Shutdown Resistor

Part Number: LM4901
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4951,

Hi

I would like to understand more does this device have the same THERMAL SHUTDOWN AND SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION like LM4951?

and if I'm not mistaken there should be a Shutdown resistor at the die level to protect the circuitry so what would be the implication if the resistor becomes out of spec?

Thanks

Adi Irwan

  • Hi Adi Irwan,

I was searching for this, but I wasn't able to find if this device has Short-Circuit Protection. This device is very old and it is quite difficult to find this kind of information due to the people who worked with this device is no longer on TI and an EVM is not available for this device in order to do the test.
You can refer the amplifier's datasheet to find that the device has thermal shutdown protection.

  • Hi Jose,

Thank you for the explaination, yes i agree i have compare the datasheet between LM4951 and LM4901 there is not mentioning on Short Circuit Protection mention in LM4901 Datasheet. Reason why i am seeking help on this is because i have a project related to LM4901 and i need to further understand on this test paramater.

Anyhow, for LM4951 i notice there is a parameter check on the Pulldown Resistor on S/D can you share your knowledge on what are this test is use for and what would be the implication if the unit fail this test also can we detect this bad resistor unit at other test parameter?

Really appreciate the help on this and by the way it would really helpful if you can give your TI email.

    Thank you.
