LM4861: LM4861M getting HOT when its in operational & Volume also very low with 8 ohm speaker

Hi Team,

for one of my customer I am using LM4861M amplifier for 8 Ohm speaker it is working ok but getting heated issue and volume also very low, cloud you please guide me to solve this issue.

and my circuit is below(at C20 given input and 8 ohm speaker connected between L4 and GND and first pin connected to GND)

Hi Jack,

I have some questions. Are you using single-ended or differential output? and, why are you using an output inductor?
Regarding PCB layout, Are you using GND and Vdd layers? if no, it is recommended to add them because this helps to dissipate much better the power and avoid that the device gets hotter.

Hi Jose,

i am using Single ended mode only and that inductor for noise filter only and yes power plans are there in layout and one more thing i observed in differential mode IC working normal no heat.

Jack,

This device was designed to work with differential output, so it should be connected with a differential output to avoid this issue.
