TAS5720M: No acknowledgement from I2C slave

Part Number: TAS5720M

Hi,

When I am trying to communicate with TAS5720M via I2C bus the SDA goes high for 9th clock pulse.I have tested this for my 2 TAS5720 ICs and the response for both is same.I have

But, when I try the same I2C bus for some other device they are working fine.

So I want to know whether there is any other way to work for TAS5720M.

Hi Naveen,

Which i2c address have you tried yet? If ADR0 and ADR1 are both grounded, the 7-bit i2c address is 0x6c.

Hi Andy,

We have connected both the address pins to Ground directly and are using 0x6c address. We are trying to read the device ID. We are not able to reach the device.

We would like to know if there is any power sequence required for this IC. As we initially tried powering only the Digital section(i.e 3.3v) and Analog power was not supplied.

One point to note is speaker connection are left open and I2S data and clock is not programmed yet.

Will Power, Speaker connection or I2S data non-availability will cause any problem to the device.

Hi Chiru,

There is no power-up sequence for this device. Either power can comes first.

I would suggest you provide both DVDD and PVDD and then try again. If the first i2c operation fails, redo the same operation to see whether the second one can succeed.

Hi Andy,

We tried all the options but still couldnt find the chip responding. Please find the circuit for your review. There is another device on the same I2C bus which is responding.

Hi Chiru,

Here my suggestions.
a) Connect your i2c bus to a TAS5720MEVM and check whether you can see the same issue.
b) Make sure there is no soldering issue.
c) Check PVDD, DVD (3.3) and GVDD (around 7V) after the TAS5720M device is powered on.
d) Try another TAS5720M unit.

Dear Andy,

1) Is there is Power on Sequence diagram ? ( relating PVDD1 , DVDD , Shoutdown signal ).

Above wave form is I2C Read ID transaction . Not getting Acknowledge

Hi Ramesh,

As I mentioned before, there is no power-up sequence since TAS5720 has been designed as an easy-to-use device. It doesn't matter if PVDD or DVDD comes first.

I would suggest you connect the i2c bus to a TAS5720MEVM and check whether you can see the same issue.

Dear Andy,

ADR0 and ADR1 are both grounded.

We have tried with 0xD8 I2C device address. Below are Wave form. There is No - ACK.

Here , NO Audio clock signals are given.

Hi Shawn Zheng,

We couldnt find any solution for the same. We are stuck up.

We see Faultz Signal pulsating every 350uS. which means the device is getting supply and its internal logic is working fine.

Could please help us in fixing the issue. We are using 0x6C address for the TAS57620M.

This IC is responding for I2C / SPI Advark tools and some raspery pi 3 Boards. Why this is not responding with our Board even though I2C host signals are same?

Hi Chiru,

Sorry for the delay. It seems that the address may not be right.

Could you please again:

1. To measure the resistance between ADR0 to GND and ADR1 to GND; Please use TAS5720M's ADR0/ADR1 pin as the testing point;

2. Power on and then please measure the voltage of both ADR1 and ADR2 pin;

3. If the measurements of step1 and step2 are normal. Please replace the 0x6C device with another new device and try step 1 and step2 again;

Please send us the measuring results to us for furhter analysis.

Hi Alix,

We had initially measured the Resistance and voltage of the device and both are zero. Even the TAS5720M EVM shows the same.

It would be helpful if we could get the source code of the TAS5720MEVM (TAS1020 device). So that we can analyze the source code and see what is the difference in our code.

We are using ATMEL SAMV71 Controller in our application. Neither our target board nor the TAS5720MEVM is responding to I2C of SAMV71.

Hi Chiru,

TAS5720M is able to do playback with its default settings. TAS1020 doesn't send any i2c command to TAS5720MEVM when power-on. Instead, it only provides I2S data to TAS5720M.

I don't think the source code is going to help you guys. I can use other I2C hosts (eg. Aardvark I2C Host Adapter) to communicate with TAS5720MEVM without any problem since TAS5720M supports the standard i2c communication. Just to echo my comment, I see you mentioned before "this IC is responding for I2C / SPI Advark tools and some raspery pi 3 Boards". Hence, I believe this issue is not a device issue and most likely due to your micro-controller.
