Dear All

Not able to calculate audio amplifier current consuming . Pls help how to calculate amplifier current

Input voltage is DC-12V/2.2A

Also below attached image file i am not able to find RS value (Series resistance )

Hi Nagaraj,

I suppose you are requiring the calculation of the input current on the power supply. The formula in the picture is for the calculation of the PLIMIT voltage.

You need to know the following info for the input current calculation: PVCC voltage, speaker resistance, the peak output power. In the Figure 8 and Figure 9, you could find efficiency curve for your application case and calucuate the input power by the efficiency and the peak output power. Then calculate the input current by the input power and the PVCC voltage. Please don't forget to reserve enough margin.

Hi Nagaraj,
I reviewed the SCH, and basically there is no obvious issue in it. Please refer to my comments below:
1. We usually use 1uF capacitors for AVCC and GVDD decoupling. So please use 1uF capcitors for C97 and C119.
2. Please make sure the voltage rating for the capcitors(C95, C06, C117, C121) in the output filter is higher than 1.8*PVCC.
3. The single-ended input mode is used in this applilcation. Please make the differential input matching as much as possible to avoid the pop noise during power-up. So please use highprecision capacitors(e.g. X7R) for the input capacitors(C108, C110, C113 and C114). And you could short R131/R133 and remove C131/C132 if you find pop noise issue during power-up(in this way, the matching between INN and INP are improved).
For the PCM5121 SCH review, please post the request in converter forum.

Hi Nagaraj,
I suppose the max output power is 10W for each channel with 8Ohm load and 12V PVCC. The device is used in BTL mode, then max total output power is 20W. In this case, the efficiency is around 88%, so the input power is around 22.73W, then the current is 1.894A. But you still need to reserve enough margin above this value.

I don't quite understand why "P=V/R' in your description.
I think I have already explained the way to calculate the input current in previous thread. In the Figure 8 and Figure 9, you could find the rough efficiency for your application case and calucuate the input power by the efficiency and the peak output power(Pin = Pout/efficiency). Then calculate the input current by the input power and the PVCC voltage (I=P/PVCC). Please don't forget to reserve enough margin.
