Measuring nanoamps with INA210-214

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA114, INA118, INA333

Hi,

As the subject suggests I would like to measure nano amps with any of these devices. Is it possible? from what I've seen I need to put the Ref at Vs/2... being this true, my Vout would have a voltage output of a couple of Volts. So, with this scenario, it would be hard to measure nano amps with a DMM, even if amplified 1000 times, as the measuring range would be high.

Any suggestions on how  to solve this problem? should I change the INA to another high side shunt monitor?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Carlos,

Thank you for looking at TI solutions for current sensing.  The INA21x family has micro amps of input bias current and therefore is not recommended for applications such as measuring nano amps.  You will need to look at a traditional instrumentation amplifier.  Since I do not know any of your other circuit requirements I cannot recommend a solution, but you might look at traditional instrumentation amplifiers such as INA333, INA114, INA118 and other similar products.
