LMP8481

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMP8481, DRV8881, INA240
  1. I'm using the LMP8481 to measure the current of a PWM servo system (driven by DRV8881)
  2. The supply voltage to the circuit is between 20V to 35 VDC
  3. There's an ambiguous note at the data sheet (8.3.6 Low-Side Current Sensing), which warns about low voltage (<4v) usage
  4. Should I be worried using the LMP8481 in my application ?
  5. Another question, is it better to power that IC from the servo PSU, or from a separate (less noisy) 5V PSU ?

Thanks

  • Hi Ilan,

The LMP8481 is a HIGH side only current shunt monitor. It won't work for voltages less than 4V as the datasheet specified. For PWM systems I will recommend you take a look at the INA240. This device will also work well with your 20V to 35V VDC. It's common mode voltage range is –4 V to 80 V.
