INA180: Signal filtering

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: INA180

Hi

I'm referring the signal filtering on the datasheet page 18.

I think Rf and Cf make low pass filter at the differential input.

Regarding to selection of Rf and Cf, how to calculate filter characteristics (like cutoff freq)?

  • Hi na

You are indeed correct, however, the components should be of sufficient value as to only attenuate the input slew rate. This can be useful to remove short term glitches or improve ESD sensitivity at the device inputs.

The filter calculations should be very standard, when using a calculator, make sure the resistor values are kept lower than 10Ohm.

The INA180 by itself already has good high frequency rejection, so in reality TI discourages the use of filters, whenever possible. For low frequency band pass, filtering should be carried out at the output to minimise the size of the components and reduce the error caused by input bias currents.

For your reference here are a few plots of the INA180 self attenuation, without any input filtering. The INA180 is  the green Plot, Yellow being the input.
