INA138: monitoring 15A

Part Number: INA138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA193, , LMP8640HV, INA282, INA240, INA250

Hi,expart.
Could you help me?

Are INA138 or INA193 fulfilled the following requirements?

・common mode voltage: >DC30V
・monitoring current: 0 to 15A

If impossible, Is there any product that can be realized?

Best regards,
Ryuji

  • Hello Ryuji,

Thank you for considering using Texas instruments. Both the INA138 and INA193 can satisfy your common mode voltage requirement. As for the current monitoring requirement, that depends on your system. If your load is fixed, than the max value it could be while using the INA138 and a 50 mohm shunt is 3.95 ohms. Otherwise, the max common mode voltage will be exceeded before 15A is ever reached. As for the INA193, it cannot measure the lower bound of 0A.   The INA193 actually needs a minimum 20mV across the shunt resistor.

Some parts you may want to consider would be the INA240, INA282, and the LMP8640HV.  For future reference, you may be able to more quickly find the right part with our online search matrix, which allows you to find parts based on your system requirements.  Here is a link to this search tool: http://www.ti.com/amplifier-circuit/current-sense/products.html

Ryuji could you share a few more details on your system, such as what your load impedance range is, your expected supply range, and what will be collecting the output from the current monitor? With these details, we can clearly determine what current monitor will be able to meet all of your system needs.

Also, for a guide to choosing a current monitor, you can watch the first two training videos we provide on the following link: https://e2e.ti.com/support/amplifiers/current-shunt-monitors/f/931/t/467332

  • Ryuji,

You also may be very interested in the INA250. It is a 36-V capable device and has an integrated 2mOhm shunt resistor in the package, and supports up to 15A continuous current flow. It has low gain and offset errors, and excellent drift vs. temperature.
  • Hi, Patrick-san

Thank you very much. It was very helpful.

    I'm sorry.
Detail of cusutomer's requirement has not been decided yet.
So, I dont know any information.
First of all, I will provide your information to my customer.

    Best regards,
    Ryuji

  • Hi, Jason-san

    Thank you for your information.
I will promote INA250 as well as INA138&INA193.

    Best regards,
    Ryuji
