INA240: about input cap of INA240

Part Number: INA240

Hi dear supporting team,

if customer need add input filter for INA240, is there uplimitation for the shunt cap value?  could they add 0.1uF?  (will it affect the stability?) tks a lot!

  • Hi Vera Mao,

Recommended values for this capacitor are between 0.1 μF and 1 μF. The customer should keep the value of the input resistors to 10 ohms or less. When additional external series filter resistors are added to the circuit, a mismatch is created in the voltage drop across the filter resistors. This voltage is a differential error voltage in the shunt resistor voltage. There is more information about this topic in the datasheet, Application Section.
  • Hi Mayrim,

    thanks for the answer!

so why couldn't the cap be lower than 0.1uF? TKS A LOT!

  • Hi Vera Mao,

That cap can be as low as you want it, those are only recommended values.

Note: this is recommended for DC signals. I just discussed with the application designer of this device, he say he do not recommend using filtering if your have PWM signal.
