INA138: How does INA138´s output behave when power is switched ON and OFF?

Part Number: INA138

In an application where INA138 is used to monitor a 32V current, both the sense resistor and the INA138 are located at the 32V side, followed by the load to GND.

What is the behavior of INA138 output pin if we turn 32V OFF and ON with a duty cycle? In this case, V+ and Vsense+ will simultaneously rise and drop, while Vsense- will folow the same up and down behavior but several millivolts apart.

Is INA138´s output guaranteed to behave? will it wander from V+ to Gnd in microseconds?, oscillate?

  • Hello Sergio,

We can't guarantee the INA138's behaviour in this situation because this is not in the datasheet. What is the frequency and duty cycle of this power sequencing? What is the sense voltage? What is the load resistance?

Additionally anything the INA138 ouput from 0V to <2.7V, will not be guaranteed since this is outside of both recommended operating conditions for V+ and common mode (Vcm).

  • Sergio,

Are there any more details or problems you have? It would be helpful to have some information to know how to test this. If you have any other questions please post to the forum.

    Sincerely,
