I'm using two separate power supplies with the ISO122 part, both supplies supplying +5V and GND. I have a varying voltage signal (1V-5V) being derived from the input supply, and I expect to see the same voltage on the output of this chip due to the nature of the part. But instead, I always get a fixed 2.9V output referenced to the second supply GND. Is thisexpected? I would expect the voltage to be copied on the other side of the isolation barrier.

It seems you are using the part with single +5V supplies. The ISO122 requires isolated dual (+/- 5V) supplies at Vs1 and Vs2.
