LM211 input diode clamp

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM211

I have a circuit using an LM211 comparator where the input is diode clamped to the supply rail and ground.  If the inputs get high to be clamped, will this damage the device or cause anomolous behavior on the output?  The data sheet says it is recommended to have the inputs at (Vcc+) - 1.5V and (Vcc-) +0.5V, but this is not listed as the absolute maximum so its not clear to if this results in a risk of damage.
