DRV3201EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV3201-Q1, MOTORWARE

Hi everyone,

I purchased an eval module for the DRV3201 a couple of weeks ago. The User's Guide I found on the homepage is based on the DRV8301-LS12-KIT plus the 2 DVDs which are included in this kit.

However I only wanted to have some fun, learn something in the process (BLDC motor control) and see how far I can go with this eval module.

Could somebody please tell me what is the most simple way to connect a BLDC motor with digital hall sensors to the EVM and just see if everything works? I was thinking in terms of control card I would need and some kind of software with a GUI and demo program.

Thank you!

Regards,

Botond

  • Botond,

The user guide mentions the DRV8301-LS12-KIT since they have similar functionality, however the DRV3201-Q1 has more elaborate safety features. This means the DRV3201-Q1 requires extra code to be written in order use the examples from the DRV8301-LS12-KIT or other 3-phase pre-driver boards. The only example included with the kit written for the DRV3201-Q1 is the sensorless FOC speed control demo with encoder feedback. There is no demo code for spinning a motor with hall sensors written specifically for this board.

The example software and the EVM user guide uses the TMS570LS12 control card which you can find here: http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdx570ls12cncd

The GUI used to spin the motor is included on the DVD, both DVDs must be installed to use it. It uses gui composer as part of code composer studio, as well as Motorware for Hercules. Please install this software and refer to section 5.1.3 of the DRV3201-Q1 EVM to install the GUI specific to this device.

    Regards,
