LM2900N not working in voltage follower configuration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2900, LM324

I am trying to use the LM2900N in a voltage follower configuration but it is not working. I have pin 14 (Vcc+) set at 7.5V and pin 7 (ground) grounded. I have connected pins 5 (1 out) and 6 (1 in-) with a wire and am connecting pin 1 ( 1 in+) to the middle pin of a variable resister (10 kohms). The variable resistor is connected to the 7.5 V and ground line. I have confirmed that the middle pin is changing voltages over the range then the knob is turned. When I connect the middle pin of the variable resistor to pin 1 of the LM2900N it creates a massive current draw on my power supply.

Can anyone give me any suggestions for trouble shooting this? Also the op amps have a number on top od the part number. It is 22A79JM E4. I am not sure if it is useful information
