Importing TLV3201 PSpice Model into ADS

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV3201

Hello,

I have imported the PSPICE model for TLV3201 into ADS, however I don't get the expected output for the exact same circuit and input signal. The first result is from TINA and the second one is from ADS. The connections, biasing and grounding are okay. So I am not sure what is wrong. Is the model not compatible with ADS? I would be really glad if someone clarify my doubt regarding this. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Hello Mirza,

The TLV3201 was fully tested using Cadence PSpice and TINA Spice simulators. This morning I took the TLV3201 PSpice text file and set up a model in TopSPICE. TopSPICE follows the Cadence PSpice syntax rules precisely. I then set the model up in your specific circuit and ran simulations. You can see result of a transient simulation below. The results are correct.

I checked the ADS web site and the product brochure provided on the site. There is reference to Cadence, but it doesn't specifically mention PSpice. If it is PSpice compatible I would expect the TLV3201 model to run correctly with the ADS circuit simulator. If that is the case, then there may be an issue with the way you assigned the pin order to the symbol. The model uses the pin order; IN+, IN-, VCC, GND, OUT. Make sure that the order is correctly associated in the symbol. Miswired models can produce odd results - if they even converge.

The other possibility is the ADS syntax requirements and rules are not exactly the same as those for PSpice. It isn't that uncommon. Individual simulator producers sometimes deviate from the Cadence syntax to provide enhancements to their software. Unfortunately, the simulation results may not be the same as what one would receive with PSpice.

  • Hi Thomas,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I made sure the PIN order is correctly associated with the symbol, but unfortunately it still does not work. I guess although ADS allows to import the PSpice model, it is not really compatible (for whatever the reason is).

    Cheers,

    Mirza
