We have used for a long time TL084's in signal conditioning applications. Recently, we've had two (2) failures, and I'm suspecting they're related to poor design. In our circuit, we're taking a BNC off the front panel of an enclosure STRAIGHT INTO Pin 5 of this PDIP device. No series, no shunt resistance. I'm "guessing" that we're seeing static destroying these devices, but have no proof.
If I were to TRY a fix, which direction would you recommend? Something like a 10K in series with the input, or something like a 100K shunting the input go ground?
Is there a better alternative? Am I barking up the wrong tree????
Any help appreciated!
