LF356 ; photodiode ; single supply opamp for photodiode

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LF356

1. I have opened a board in which photodiode(unknown) is connected to LF356. LF356 datasheet says it require minimum +-15V, but starngely in board it is +-5V. How does it work?

2, I am planning to interface photodiode BPW34. Now my system has only single supply +3.3V & ground. Is there any amplifier for this? Accuracy is not much concern here, cost is.

  • Hello Vindhyachal,

The LF35x devices can operate with supplies as low as 8V (±4V), but it is not recommended to go lower due to the limited output swing and lower common mode range. ±5V is a commonly used supply, as long as Rail to Rail output is not required.

There are many variations and options for a photo diode circuit. Can you share your existing or planned circuit? There are many devices that can be used at 3.3V, but we need to narrow them down a bit.

    Regards,

  • Hi Paul,

    Somehow missed your reply.

Attached find the ckt which I traced from a working board. It is working if made on general purpose board. I am using +-5V supplies, currently. Do you think this ckt is ok?
