LM139A: datasheet discrepancy?

Part Number: LM139A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM393

Team,

My customer has the following question on SLCS006T:

After a morning of confusion, we believe we have spotted a typo in the LM139A datasheet, revised June 2015. Page 10, section 8.3, says "The output NPN sinks current when the positive input voltage is higher than the negative input voltage and the offset voltage." Page 12, Section 9.2.2.1 says "If IN– is higher than IN and the offset voltage, the output is low and the output transistor is sinking current."

Can you please confirm that the second description is correct?

Regards,

Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

You are correct. The datasheet section 8.3 text is incorrect. We are in the process of correcting it.

The sister part LM393 datasheet has the corrected text:

"The output consists of an open drain NPN (pull-down or low side) transistor. The output NPN will sink current
when the negative input voltage is higher than the positive input voltage and the offset voltage."

So the higher input sets the output. If the positive input is higher, the output will be high. If the negative input is higher, the output will be low.

    Sorry for the confusion..
