PGA309: Multi-Cal PGA309

Part Number: PGA309
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MULTI-CAL-SYSTEM

I have added a second stage to the output of the PGA309.  Can I use this output (secondary) and my 1 wire programing to calibrate the sensor using the multi-cal set up?  Do I need to do anything different?

Thanks,

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

The MULTI-CAL-SYSTEM starter kit released software does not support an external second output stage for the PGA309; since the kit PGA30x test cards do not incorporate a second amplifier stage.

However, the Multi-CAL-Master board could calibrate the output of the overall multi-stage amplifier as a whole, provided that the output range is less than 10V.  There are multiplexers on the output path of the amplifier that are powered with a +/-10V supply; limiting the output voltage supported by the hardware.

The last version of the PGA309 multi-cal software incorporates an additional step on the pre-cal/post-cal set up files that allow you to enter a nominal gain and nominal offset shift of a second amplifier stage to include the second stage gain on the overall composite amplifier calibration; which was added in by one of my colleagues.

Step 10 of the "Create Pre Cal File" is shown below; where the user can type in the nominal gain and nominal offset shift of the second sate amplifier.  Also, on step 11, you will need to input the overall "Out High Target" and "Out low target" of the second amplifier stage output.   The software calibrates the composite amplifier accounting or adjusting for the nominal gain/offset of the second stage).  I assume your test card uses an independent one-wire connection. You will need to feed the required +Vsup voltage into the multi-cal-master hardware.

-- What voltage supplies does the second amplifier stage require?  And what is the expected vout range, nominal gain and nominal offset of the second stage?  If you have an schematic, please provide.

Below is an image for the GUI showing step 10 and step 11 of the GUI on the "Create Pre Cal File", as well as a link for the installer of the engineering version of the software.
