LM7171 Output low voltage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM7171

Hello everyone,

I have been looking through the datasheet of the LM7171 for 2 days and I have not come across the parameter that specifics what the output low voltage for this op amp is. I know that most op amps are not rail to rail and the output usually sits some voltage above 0 V (assuming our supply is 0 on the V- and 5 on V+)

Anyone who has an LM7171, how much does the output sit above 0 V when you do not have any signal at the input of the terminals? As in, what is the lowest voltage the op amp can output?

  • Hello Philip,

I dont quite understand what you mean by " not having an input signal at the input terminals". In this case the opamp will be open loop and based on its offset can swing either to the positive or the negative rail.

Now, to determine the swing capabilities of the opamp, look at Page 5 of the datasheet, there is a Vo, Output Swing parameter. The swing of the part will change based on the output loading. Under +/-15V supplies and 1K load the output can swing to within 1.8V of the negative rail and for 100Ohm load it will swing to 4.5V of the -ve rail.

Similarly from Page 7 of the datasheet; under +/-5V supplies and 1K load the output can swing to within 1.6V of the negative rail and for 100Ohm load it will swing to 2Vof the -ve rail.

From figure 14 of the datasheet, the minimum supply voltage looks to be around +/-5V, so I dont think you will get very good perfromance with the 5V & 0V supplies you are considering. Hope this was clear.
