Doubt on IC for GSM power amplification

Hello,

I am designing a basic RF repeater which shall pick up signals from free space, bring it to the area with less coverage via co-ax cables, amplify the signal there, band pass filter it and then re-radiate in that small area. I am looking for RF power amplifier IC's which can amplify in range of 850-1000MHz. So can any one suggest which RF power amplifier IC shall suit for my application

I need gain of about 20dBm in range 850 MHz to 950Mhz. Gain can be compromised a bit, but my prime concern is to improve the signal strength to about -95dBm in mobile and so a amplifier gain of about 15-20 dBm is required.

Hello Aditya,
I would recommend the LMH6521. This amplifier had a fairly high power output stage and has the necessary bandwidth. I do not know if the linearity will be sufficient for this purpose.

Can you also suggest a band pass filter in the range 880 - 915 MHz and 925 - 960 MHz? This shall solve my problem to create a repeater entirely.

Hello Aditya,

I suggest you use the free filter design program from AADE. (http://www.aade.com/filter.htm) Just enter your design criteria and it will give LC components to design the filter. If an LC filter does not meet your needs you may need to buy an SAW filter. TI does not make SAW filters.

The filter design will partly depend on the regulations for radio broadcast in your area. I do not have any designs that have passed regulatory approval.
